Week of December 13, 2010

We have a busy week ahead of us - getting everything wrapped up before our two week holiday!

The highlight of the week will be our annual Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m.
As well, the grades 6, 7 and 8's will be having a dance in the afternoon of Friday, December 17.

Reminder! The School Council is coordinating the Library Gift program once again this year.  If you're looking for the perfect holiday gift for that special teacher or child care provider, there is no better way to say "thank you" than to add a book in his or her name to the CHPS library!  We'll add a template inside the cover to say who donated the book and in whose name.  Since good quality volumes that are made to last cost at least $10, we're asking that your donation be $10 or more.
NOTE:  The School Council is a registered Canadian charity.  They will provide tax recipts upon request.
Please return your forms and cash or chque this week in a baggie marked LIBRARY GIFT.
The School Council thanks you for your continued support of the library refurbishment program.  Happy Holidays!

Reminder! The School Council is hosting a Bake Sale just before (and after) the Holiday Concert this Thursday night.  If you can donate a festive treat to the table, please return the bake sale flyer to the school by Wednesday to let us know.  And remember to bring a little spending money on concert night.  You won't want to miss out on the goodies!  It's an easy and inexpensive way to prepare for your holiday guests - and the proceeds go towards improving the CHPS library for all of our students!
The School Council looks forward to greeting you at the Bake Sale table on Thursday night!

A special assembly was held this morning to introduce our
new school-wide student recognition program called Cougar PAWS.
This program is based on the 10 OCDSB Character Traits
which are listed in each student's agenda, displayed in classrooms and discussed with students regularly.
In addition, we recognized the importance of Bullying Awareness Week, which has just concluded.
It was a great way to start a Monday!

Don't forget that this Friday, November 26 is a PD Day, and there will be no school for students.

Also, mark your calendars for these yearly favourite events, coming up in December:

- Multicultural Lunch on Thursday, December 9 (volunteers welcome - please call the office)

- Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 16 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in our gymnasium.

Our Progress Reports were sent home last Thursday, November 4.  You will have noticed the different format for this report.  There will be two more Report Cards sent home - one in February and one in March (these will follow the old Report Card format).

As a follow up to our Progress Reports going home, we will be holding Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday, November 11 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, November 12 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Please note that there is no school on Friday, November 12 for students.

Our entire school enjoyed an exciting Inuit dancing and drumming performance given by the grandfather of one of our grade one students last Thursday.

We will be doing Photo retakes and Group Photos on Monday, November 15.
